Mr. Lilien has 28 years experience in financial services,
running both retail and institutional businesses, in brokerage
and banking, online and off. He has participated as an operator
in deals totaling well over $3 billion. In addition to leading
negotiations and deal structures, he has had direct responsibility
for post-deal integrations and platform conversions.
Mr. Lilien is a Principal of Bendigo Partners, LLC which
he founded in 2008 and where he has served as Managing Partner
since that time, leading a team of highly experienced executives
to invest in scalable businesses ranging from early stage
venture to larger established companies.
Mr. Lilien was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of
TIR Securities which was subsequently sold to E*TRADE Financial.
Mr. Lilien co-founded TIR Holdings Limited and served as its
Chief Executive Officer for 10 years.
He served in various capacities with E*TRADE Financial Corporation
from 1999 to April 2008, including as President and Chief
Operating Officer from March 2003 to April 2008; in this capacity,
he was responsible for building the premier online financial
services franchise and delivering five record years of customer
growth and earnings. He served as Acting Chief Executive Officer
at E*TRADE from November 2007 to March 2008 and steered it
and its customers through the beginnings of the financial
crisis and laid the foundation for E*TRADE’s recovery.
Mr. Lilien served as the Chief Brokerage Officer at E-trade
Securities LLC, and as Chief Brokerage Officer he took E*TRADE
Financial from losses to sustained profitability.
Mr. Lilien sits on multiple boards including Tradier, Inc.,
Kobren Insight Management Inc., Howard Capital Management,
Inc., WisdomTree Investments, Inc., The Barton Group, and
HazelTree Fund Services, LLC. Since April 2015, he has been
a Director of Investment Technology Group Inc. (ITG) where
he served as interim CEO. Mr. Lilien is an Advisory Board
member at OneWire Inc. and serves on the Board of Trustees
for the Baryshnikov Arts Center. He also sits on the Boards
of WFUV Radio, Stereo Scope, Inc., and The Jazz Foundation
of America, for which he serves as President. Mr. Lilien’s
past board seats have included E*TRADE Group, IL&FS Investsmart,
SBI Securities, Strike, and Archipelago.
He previously served as Chairman of the Board for Kapitall,
Inc. and was a Director of HSBC InvestDirect (India) Ltd and
E*trade Australia Limited. Mr. Lilien holds a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Economics from the University of Vermont.
